Amy Winehouse was born in Enfield, north London, and signed with Island Records in 2002. Her debut album, Frank (2003), brought her Ivor Novello recognition in Britain, and Back to Black (2006) became one of the best-selling albums of all time. At the 2008 Grammy Awards she won five awards. She died on July 23, 2011.
Her mother's memoir and a 2009 chart book
Astro-Databank rates the 10:25 p.m. time A, the grade for a time that comes from family or memory instead of a certificate. Its source note names two sources. In "Astrologer's Book of Charts" (2009), Frank Clifford quotes Margaret Zelinski, who obtained the data from Amy's mother through a mutual friend. Then the mother put it in print. Janis Winehouse's memoir "Loving Amy: A Mother's Story" (2014) says, "At 10.25 pm, Amy made her debut, but by then she was already four days late."
No other birth time is on record, so there is nothing to weigh it against. Gemini rose in Enfield from 9:29 p.m. to 11:14 p.m., and the second table shows the Moon changing sign the same evening.
| Point | Sign at birth | In that sign | Before and after |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rising sign | ♊︎ Gemini | 9:29 p.m. to 11:14 p.m. | Taurus before, Cancer after |
| Midheaven | ♒︎ Aquarius | 9:37 p.m. to 11:35 p.m. | Capricorn before, Pisces after |
| Moon | ♑︎ Capricorn | 9:34 p.m. to midnight | Sagittarius before |

A Capricorn Moon fresh from Sagittarius
The Moon crossed from Sagittarius into Capricorn at 9:34 p.m. on September 14, 1983, and stayed in Capricorn until midnight. Amy was born 51 minutes later, with the Moon at 0°26′, inside the first degree of the sign.
Any hour before 9:34 p.m. gives a Sagittarius Moon, and so does a chart cast for noon, which is what many calculators do when no time is known. Her mother's time is what puts the Moon in Capricorn, so here the source decides the Moon sign.
Saturn rules Capricorn in the tradition. Hers is in Scorpio at 1°57′, a sextile to the Moon 1°31′ from exact. Neptune, in Sagittarius at 26°28′, lies just across the sign line, a conjunction 3°58′ wide. Under Placidus the Moon and Neptune share the 7th house. Under Whole Sign Neptune stays in the 7th and the Moon falls in the 8th.

Gemini rising, Aquarius at the midheaven
The ascendant is at 17°46′ Gemini. Gemini had been rising for 56 minutes when she was born and kept rising for 50 more, so a few minutes of error in the record would not change the sign. The midheaven is at 11°59′ Aquarius, and Aquarius held it from 9:37 p.m. to 11:35 p.m.
In the tradition Mercury rules both Gemini and Virgo, so one planet stands behind her rising sign and her Sun sign. The Sun is at 21°29′ of Virgo. Mercury sits 1°32′ from it at 23°02′, retrograde, in the 5th house under Placidus and the 4th under Whole Sign.

Venus retrograde beside Mars in Leo
Venus is at 23°13′ of Leo and retrograde (R in the table). Mars is at 20°33′, 2°40′ from Venus. Placidus houses put both in the 4th, Whole Sign houses in the 3rd. Each trines Neptune in Sagittarius, Venus 3°16′ off exact and Mars 5°56′ off.
The Sun rules Leo in the tradition, and hers is in the next sign along, Virgo. Venus and Mars in one sign are read as attraction and drive pointing the same way.

Jupiter and Uranus, the closest pair
Jupiter at 4°19′ and Uranus at 5°30′, both in Sagittarius, are 1°10′ from an exact conjunction, the closest pair of planets here. Neptune at 26°28′ makes a third planet in the sign. Placidus houses put Jupiter and Uranus in the 6th. Whole Sign houses give the 7th to all three.
Jupiter rules Sagittarius, so it stands in its own sign. With Venus and Mars in Leo, five of her ten planets are in fire signs. Jupiter with Uranus is read as growth that arrives through sudden change.
