Beyoncé Giselle Knowles was born in Houston and first became famous in the late 1990s as the lead singer of Destiny's Child. Her first solo album, Dangerously in Love, came out in 2003.
How we know her birth time
For years the time was the weak part of this chart. Astro-Databank, the birth-data collection kept by Astrodienst, lists the times that went around: 4:37 a.m., said to come from a Destiny's Child book that a researcher could not find it in; 10 a.m. from IMDb with no source; "sometime in the 11 a.m. hour", which the AstroTwins say Beyoncé got from her mother when they read her chart in 2003; and 9:04 p.m. from her mother Tina Knowles's book Matriarch, where the 9/04 may be a slip, because September 4 is also written 9/04. With no time anyone could confirm, Astro-Databank rated the entry X, a date without a time.
In April 2025 Astro-Databank received a screenshot of her birth certificate as printed in the Cowboy Carter art book, and it gives 9:47 p.m. The entry is now rated AA, the grade Astro-Databank keeps for times from a birth certificate or birth record. We use that time.
The table shows what each of those times would give. The Sun and Moon signs are the same every time; the rising sign comes out in four different signs.
| Birth time | Where it came from | Rising sign | Midheaven |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4:37 a.m. | said to be in a Destiny's Child book; not found there | ♌︎ Leo 10°20′ | Taurus |

Aries rising, by three minutes
Her ascendant is at 29°01′ Aries, the last degree of Aries. That is close to the edge: on that evening in Houston, Aries rose from 8:26 p.m. to 9:50 p.m., so a birth three minutes later would have given Taurus rising. Sites that still use an older time show Libra or Scorpio rising. That is why charts of Beyoncé online disagree.
In the tradition, the rising sign describes how a person comes across before anyone knows them, and Aries rising is read as direct and quick to act. Astrologers also look at the ruler of the rising sign. For Aries that is Mars, which in this chart sits in Leo in the 4th house.
Five planets in Libra
The most unusual thing in this chart is Libra. Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto were all in Libra on September 4, 1981, spread over 19° of the sign. Astrologers call three or more planets in one sign a stellium; five is a large one. In our count of every date from 1930 to 2025, only 3.5% of dates had five or more of the ten planets in one sign.
The stellium belonged to the whole year, and September 4 was one day inside it. Jupiter and Saturn met in Libra three times, on December 31, 1980, and in March and July 1981, and Pluto had been in Libra since 1971. The faster bodies joined them for a few weeks: in 1981, 31 days between August 31 and October 26 had five or more of the ten planets in Libra (on some of them only because the Moon was passing through). Many people born in that stretch share the pattern, so it describes those weeks of 1981 as much as any one person.
In the tradition, Libra is the sign of balance, partnership and taste, ruled by Venus. Venus in Libra is in its own sign. Saturn is said to be exalted in Libra. A chart with this much Libra is read as one where fairness, partnership and the look of things carry a lot of weight. That is what the tradition says about the placement; it is not a claim about Beyoncé.

Sun, Moon and rising
Her Sun is at 12°27′ in Virgo, an earth sign that the tradition links with craft, detail and steady work. The Moon is at 26°44′ in Scorpio, read as private and intense feeling. The Moon does not depend on the birth time here. It stayed in Scorpio for the whole of September 4 in Houston, so every version of her chart agrees on it.
The Moon is 0°15′ from Uranus, the tightest aspect in the chart. Astrologers read a Moon and Uranus conjunction as feelings that change suddenly and a need for independence.

Houses: why two systems give two pictures
With the Placidus system, the default on most chart sites, her five Libra planets fall in the 6th house, the house of daily work and routine, the Sun in the 5th and the Moon in the 7th. With Whole Sign houses, where each sign is one house, the Libra group moves to the 7th house, the house of partners, and the Sun to the 6th.
Neither version is wrong. They are two ways of cutting the sky. Here the choice changes the reading, because the house cusps fall in the middle of the signs. The wheel and the table below use Placidus; the house column links to our pages on each house.

The tightest aspects
An aspect is an angle between two planets. Reading from the tightest: the Moon and Uranus are 0°15′ apart, a conjunction; Venus and Pluto are a conjunction 1°52′ from exact, read in the tradition as intense attachments and taste; Jupiter and Saturn, the conjunction of 1981, are 3°23′ apart. The Sun makes a wide square to Neptune.
