What a Pisces midheaven means
A Pisces MC gives a public role marked by generosity with little regard for the ledger, and a feel for the thing that is worth more than its price. Most people lose a gift card with $3.40 left on it in a drawer; a Pisces MC finds a way to spend it on something small that makes a stranger's day, then forgets the amount.
Pisces is a mutable water sign, the last of the twelve, and astrologers read it as porous. Water takes the shape of whatever holds it, and mutable signs adapt as seasons change. A Pisces MC is therefore often known for being easy to talk to, for catching a mood before anyone names it, and for work that starts as a hunch and only later gets a plan. Where a Virgo MC is hired for catching the error, a Pisces MC is hired for noticing why the room has gone quiet.
Pisces closes the circle as the last sign, so the MC here is read as a public role that gathers what the other eleven signs leave over: the odd job, the person nobody else would sit with, the idea that fits no department. That can make the early career look scattered and the later one look obvious in hindsight.
The placement says little about stability or talent either way. Some people with it plan carefully and hold one job for decades. The sign describes the texture of the public role, soft-edged and attentive. It says nothing about the schedule or the pay.
Pisces midheaven careers
Astrologers steer a Pisces MC toward work that runs on imagination, sympathy or a sense of the unseen: a dispatcher answering a late call and a film editor trimming one second of silence are both reading people they cannot see. Directions they name:
- film, music, photography, design and other image-making work;
- writing, poetry, screenwriting and voice work;
- nursing, hospice, palliative care and other bedside medicine;
- counseling, chaplaincy and spiritual direction;
- charity, advocacy and anything that serves people on the margins;
- oceanography, marine work, and fields tied to water or shipping;
- dance, acting and therapy through art.
The same blur that makes the sign good at reading people can make a career hard to describe at a party. A Pisces MC often reaches its field by a side road, the tradition says, and the title on the badge sounds nothing like the work. A hospital chaplain, a sound designer and a grant writer for a food bank can share the placement and have no overlap in daily tasks.
The warning in the tradition is boundaries. A Pisces MC can absorb a team's mood, say yes to what it cannot carry, or drift when a project has no clear shape. A written agenda, a fixed finishing time and one colleague who will say no on your behalf are practical answers. The tradition also cautions about escape: when the public role gets heavy, this sign is the one most tempted to vanish into sleep, screens or a drink.
Enter your birth date, time and city. The example below is a birth on July 15, 1990, at 4:30 a.m. in New York, which has a Pisces midheaven.
Yes: your midheaven is ♓︎ Pisces 15°16′.
Your MC sits in the Whole Sign 9th house, with Cancer rising.
On that date in New York City, Pisces held the midheaven from 3:33 a.m. to 5:24 a.m. Anyone born there in that window has a Pisces MC.

Jupiter and Neptune: the rulers of a Pisces midheaven
Traditional astrology gives Pisces to Jupiter, the planet of growth and generosity; modern astrologers add Neptune, which they link to dreams, ideals and fog. Both are read as steering the career, and they pull in different directions: Jupiter wants the work to widen, Neptune wants it to dissolve into something larger than a job. The house of each shows where that happens. Jupiter in the 2nd house points to work that earns through teaching or giving; Jupiter in the 10th to a public role that keeps growing with time; Jupiter in the 5th to creative work and children. Neptune takes about 14 years to cross a sign, so everyone born in those years shares it, and its house says more than its sign. Neptune in the 7th is read as ideals invested in partners; Neptune in the 12th as work done quietly, far from an audience.
In the example in the tool above (July 15, 1990, 4:30 a.m., New York), Jupiter is in Cancer in the 1st Whole Sign house and Neptune in Capricorn in the 7th.
The Virgo IC
With a Pisces MC the IC lands on Virgo every time, degree for degree. A person known for dreaminess in public may go home, put away every dish by size and write tomorrow's list before bed. Virgo at the base is read as a private life that wants order, small repairs and a clean surface, balancing a public role that has none. When a Pisces MC feels scattered at work, the tradition suggests checking whether the home routine is doing its part, since Virgo needs a rhythm to feel safe.
Pisces midheaven vs 10th house in Pisces
Under Placidus a Pisces MC is always a Pisces 10th house, because that system begins the tenth house right at the MC. Whole Sign houses give each sign one full house beginning at the rising sign, so the answer follows who is rising: Gemini rising leaves Pisces in the 10th, Cancer rising pushes it back to the 9th, and Taurus rising forward to the 11th.
Cancer is the usual partner at US latitudes. In New York 78.5% of the Pisces MC moments we ran had Cancer rising, so a Whole Sign chart there normally files the MC under the ninth house, and the Gemini version with Pisces in the 10th turns up in 21.5%. A New York user with Cancer rising whose app says "10th house in Aries" next to a Pisces MC has two correct readings. Treat the MC as the public direction, and the 9th house as where teaching, travel and belief feed it.
Rising signs paired with a Pisces midheaven
A Pisces MC comes with only a few rising signs, and which ones depends on latitude. We counted every date from 1930 to 2025 in five US cities, one moment every 12 minutes:
| City | Rising sign with a Pisces MC | MC in the Whole Sign 10th |
|---|---|---|
| Miami (26° N) | Gemini 56.7%, Cancer 43.3% | 56.7% |
| Los Angeles (34° N) | Cancer 61.1%, Gemini 38.9% | 38.9% |
| New York (41° N) | Cancer 78.5%, Gemini 21.5% | 21.5% |
| Seattle (48° N) | Cancer 100.0% | 0.0% |
| Anchorage (61° N) | Cancer 65.1%, Leo 34.9% | 0.0% |
Cancer and Gemini are the usual rising signs for a Pisces MC. Cancer rising gives a protective, slightly shy manner, and the MC aims it at a field. Gemini rising is chattier and quicker, with the Pisces MC supplying the dream behind the talk. Which one you get depends on birthplace. Miami has both, Seattle has only Cancer, and Anchorage has Cancer with some Leo rising, which brings a more visible, theatrical manner to the same MC. If your birth city sits far from these five, the table still shows the trend: the farther north, the more the rising sign slides toward Cancer and then Leo.
When Pisces is on the midheaven
Pisces holds the MC for about 1 hour 51 minutes each day, 7.8% of the clock, in every city. The clock time moves through the year by about four minutes a day. New York clock times on the 15th of each month (2000); other cities in the same time zone shift by about four minutes for every degree of longitude, and the tool above gives the exact window for your own birthday.
This is one of the shorter windows, so the month table works as a quick filter:
| Born around the 15th of | Pisces on the MC (New York clock time) |
|---|---|
| January | 2:26 p.m. – 4:17 p.m. |
| February | 12:24 p.m. – 2:15 p.m. |
| March | 10:30 a.m. – 12:21 p.m. |
| April | 9:28 a.m. – 11:19 a.m. |
| May | 7:30 a.m. – 9:21 a.m. |
| June | 5:28 a.m. – 7:20 a.m. |
| July | 3:30 a.m. – 5:22 a.m. |
| August | 1:28 a.m. – 3:20 a.m. |
| September | midnight – 1:18 a.m. and 11:23 p.m. – midnight |
| October | 9:25 p.m. – 11:16 p.m. |
| November | 6:23 p.m. – 8:14 p.m. |
| December | 4:25 p.m. – 6:16 p.m. |

Questions about a Pisces midheaven
What does a Pisces MC say about your public image?
The tradition reads a reputation for sensitivity, imagination and generosity. People may come to you for comfort or ideas before they come for a deadline. The sign is mutable water, so the image shifts with the company, and Jupiter and Neptune, its rulers, show where the work finds its direction. It describes tone and says nothing about how well you perform.
What careers does a Pisces midheaven point to?
Astrologers name film, music and visual art, writing, nursing and hospice work, counseling, chaplaincy, charity, marine fields, dance and acting. Take them as a general feel. A bookkeeper who makes a nonprofit's numbers readable to volunteers works in the spirit of the sign, and so does a pharmacist who notices the customer who is not okay.
Does Pisces on the midheaven mean Pisces in the 10th house?
With Placidus, yes. With Whole Sign houses only when Gemini is rising; Cancer rising puts the MC in the 9th and Taurus rising in the 11th. In New York Cancer rising is the most frequent pairing, so many people see a Pisces MC in the 9th house.
Which rising sign is usual with a Pisces MC?
Gemini and Cancer across most of the country. In Los Angeles 61.1% of the moments had Cancer rising and 38.9% Gemini. In Seattle it is all Cancer, and in Anchorage Cancer or Leo.
Who has a Pisces midheaven?
We name a chart only when its birth time was taken from a record. Albert Einstein, born March 14, 1879, at 11:30 a.m. in Ulm, Germany (Astro-Databank rating AA), has the MC at 12°50′ Pisces. Lists of famous Pisces MCs without a documented time are guesses.
Which sign is the IC when the MC is in Pisces?
Virgo, matching your MC to the degree. Read as home, Virgo at the IC suggests a private life of order and routine under a softer public role.
Are Pisces midheavens uncommon?
Slightly. Pisces holds the meridian for 7.8% of a day, about 1 hour 51 minutes, the same as Aries, Virgo and Libra. Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius run to 8.3%, and Gemini, Cancer, Sagittarius and Capricorn to 8.9%.
What kind of jobs are suitable for someone with Midheaven in Pisces?
Astrologers steer a Pisces MC toward work that runs on imagination, sympathy or a sense of the unseen. The directions named include film, music, photography and design, writing and voice work, nursing and hospice care, counseling and chaplaincy, charity and advocacy, and marine fields. The tradition says this MC often reaches its field by a side road. The sign describes the texture of the role. It says nothing about schedule or pay.
