Number of years out of 96, 1930 to 2025, US Eastern time; Pacific time in brackets. Every other day of October was the same sign in all 96 years in both time zones.
Your birth year. In US Eastern time the Sun entered Scorpio on October 22 in these 10 years: 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020, 2024, 2025; on October 24 in these 8 years: 1931, 1935, 1939, 1943, 1947, 1951, 1955, 1959. In every other year from 1930 to 2025 it entered on October 23. In each year the day of the change is split: every October birthday before it was Libra all day, every one after it Scorpio all day. In Pacific time the change came three hours earlier on the clock. The calendar above gives the exact minute for your year.
October has three border days, and they do not behave alike. On East Coast clocks the 22nd was Libra start to finish in 86 years out of 96. The 23rd contained the change in 78, ran Libra throughout in 8 and Scorpio throughout in 10. The 24th was Scorpio from midnight to midnight in 88 years, with the change landing inside it in 8.

October Libra: born October 1 to 22
An October Libra is a mid-season Libra, born between about one week and a month after the equinox. Astrologers file Libra as cardinal air with Venus as ruler: it prizes balance and fair dealing, and begins things by getting people to the same table. In the classical table the Sun falls in Libra and Saturn is exalted there, which astrologers read as a sign that rewards patience and structure over display.
October Libras sit mostly in decans two and three. Only the first two days of the month reach back into decan one, ruled by the Moon in the faces and Venus in modern lists. Libra's 10° mark came on October 3 (74 of 96 years), and the 20° mark came on October 13 (79). October 3 to 12 is Saturn's by the faces and Uranus's by modern lists: a Libra with a firm sense of fairness, or an unconventional one. October 13 to 22 is Jupiter's by the faces and Mercury's by modern lists, the sociable, talkative Libra.
October Scorpio: born October 23 to 31
October Scorpios have only just entered the sign. Tradition gives Scorpio fixed water, with Mars as classical ruler and Pluto in modern lists. Fixed suggests staying power and water suggests depth of feeling, which gives the familiar picture of someone who keeps a confidence and a grudge with equal care. Venus sits in detriment in Scorpio and the Moon in fall; those are terms for a planet's standing in a sign.
All of them fall in decan one, whatever the year. That decan is Mars in the faces, the sign's classical ruler, and Pluto in modern lists, its modern one, so both systems give these Scorpios the sign's own planet. The Sun and Venus enter only in the later decans of the older table. Birthdays in the last days of October also fall on or near Halloween.
October birthdays by decan
A decan is a 10° third of a sign, about ten days of the calendar. This is where each October birthday falls, with the Sun's position at noon:
| Born | Decan | Ruler (classical faces) | Ruler (modern) |
|---|---|---|---|
| October 1–2 | ♎︎ First decan of Libra | the Moon | Venus |
| October 3–12 | ♎︎ Second decan of Libra | Saturn | Uranus |
| October 13–22 | ♎︎ Third decan of Libra | Jupiter | Mercury |
| October 23–31 | ♏︎ First decan of Scorpio | Mars | Pluto |
Most common decan at noon US Eastern time, 1930 to 2025. Days where the answer changed with the year: October 3, October 13, October 23. Classical rulers from the table of faces (Chaldean order, as in Lilly's Christian Astrology); modern rulers as listed in Wikipedia's "Decan (astrology)".
Why the Libra–Scorpio change moves from year to year
The 24th crossings all come from the early record: the 1930s had 3, the 1940s 2, the 1950s 3, and none came later. The 22nd crossings run the other way. There are none before 1992, then 2 from 1990 to 1999, 3 from 2000 to 2009, 2 from 2010 to 2019 and 3 from 2020 to 2025. Its years are 1992, every leap year after it, and 2025. A leap day pulls the Sun's arrival back a day, and the calendar's small lag behind the true year moves the pattern earlier over time.
West Coast timekeeping adds crossings to the edge days: 18 for the 22nd versus 10 in the East, 3 for the 24th versus 8. Scorpio began Oct 23, 2026: the Sun arrived when New York clocks showed 5:38 a.m., or 2:38 a.m. Pacific. The 2027 entry also falls on the 23rd, later in the morning (11:32 a.m. Eastern), while 2028 slides back a day to the 22nd (5:13 p.m. Eastern).

Air passes to water, cardinal to fixed, Venus to Mars. Libra negotiates, so it looks outward and begins by asking what the other side wants. Scorpio looks inward and begins by asking what is going on underneath. The Scales keep two sides level; the Scorpion keeps one thing under the surface.

Libra and Scorpio in love
Libra and Scorpio are adjacent signs with nothing in common in element or mode, and the tradition expects an uneasy first read. Libra wants things talked through lightly; Scorpio wants the heavy part said first. A Libra who tolerates silence and a Scorpio who tolerates small talk can steady the pairing.
For Libra the tradition names Gemini and Aquarius, with fire as the complement that air feeds. For Scorpio they are Cancer and Pisces in water, with earth as the complement.
