Born in Los Angeles, Tracee Ellis Ross works as an actress, producer and television host. She graduated from Brown University in 1994 with a theater degree, made her film debut in Far Harbor (1996) and hosted the Lifetime magazine series The Dish from 1997. She played Joan Clayton in the comedy Girlfriends from 2000 to 2008 and won NAACP Image Awards for the role. From 2014 to 2022 she starred as Dr. Rainbow Johnson in Black-ish, which brought her a Golden Globe for best actress in a television comedy or musical, and Emmy nominations. She founded the hair-care company Pattern Beauty in 2018, co-created the spin-off Mixed-ish (2019), starred in the film The High Note (2020), for which she recorded the soundtrack, and voiced the title role in the animated film Jodie.
