Paul Mescal is an Irish actor, born in Dublin. He studied acting at The Lir Academy and played in Dublin theaters before the BBC and Hulu series Normal People (2020), which brought him a British Academy Television Award for Best Actor and an Emmy nomination. His film debut, The Lost Daughter, came in 2021, and Aftersun (2022) earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. He won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor for a London revival of A Streetcar Named Desire (2022). Later films include All of Us Strangers (2023), Gladiator II (2024) and Hamnet (2025), in which he plays William Shakespeare.
