Elvis Presley began recording in 1954 at Sun Records in Memphis with the producer Sam Phillips, and RCA Victor acquired his contract in 1955. "Heartbreak Hotel", his first RCA single, came out in January 1956 and reached number one in the US. He made his film debut in Love Me Tender that November, and Jailhouse Rock followed in 1957. He served in the US Army from 1958 to 1960. The 1968 NBC television special Elvis led to a Las Vegas concert residency, and in 1973 Aloha from Hawaii became the first concert by a solo artist broadcast around the world. He died on August 16, 1977.
Doctor's record, Dundy and his own 3:30
Astro-Databank rates 4:35 a.m. AA: "B.C. in hand from Eugene Moore." The doctor's record, sold at the Graceland auction and submitted to the database by Sy Scholfield, was "recorded just minutes after his birth by Dr. Robert Hunt at 4:35 a.m." Craft quotes Elaine Dundy's "Elvis and Gladys," page 7, for "4:30 in the morning."
In 1972 Lynn Rodden asked him at a Las Vegas show, and he said 3:30 a.m., which puts the ascendant at 28°46′ of Scorpio. Dundy's 4:30 gives 11°19′ of Sagittarius, the doctor's 4:35 gives 12°22′ Sagittarius, and the Moon and midheaven stay in Pisces and Virgo at all three times.

Scorpio gives way to Sagittarius at 3:36 a.m.
The ascendant is 12°22′ Sagittarius. Sagittarius came up over Tupelo at 3:36 a.m. and stays until 5:55 a.m., which puts the recorded time 59 minutes in, with 80 to go before Capricorn arrives at 5:56 a.m. Scorpio was still rising 6 minutes after his 3:30 a.m. answer. A Sagittarius ascendant suggests an open manner and a pull toward distance and movement.
The midheaven is 26°50′ Virgo. That point is the tradition's public face and career, and Virgo there is read as careful, practiced work. Virgo ends at 4:46 a.m., 11 minutes after the recorded time, and Libra follows.

The Moon crossed from Aquarius into Pisces at 1:18 a.m. on January 8, 3 hours 17 minutes before the recorded birth, and leaves for Aries at 3:03 a.m. on January 10. It stands at 2°01′, early in the sign. The Moon is read as instinct and habit, Pisces as a receptive, imaginative temperament.
Placidus gives it the 3rd house, read as speech and the daily neighborhood; Whole Sign gives it the 4th, read as family ground and origins.

Capricorn Sun, with Mercury and Venus beside it
The Sun is at 17°14′ of Capricorn, Mercury at 22°18′ and Venus at 29°22′, all in the 2nd house in Placidus and in Whole Sign. Capricorn is read as discipline and long planning, the 2nd house as the ground a person builds on. Venus leaves for Aquarius at 4:44 p.m. the same day.
Mars in Libra, Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Cancer bring the cardinal count to six planets out of ten, an emphasis read as a chart that starts things.

Sun and Jupiter, a sextile under one degree
The Sun at 17°14′ of Capricorn and Jupiter at 18°04′ of Scorpio are 0°50′ from an exact sextile, closer than any other aspect in the chart. A sextile is read as a cooperative link, here between earth and water, and Jupiter as growth and opportunity.
Jupiter is also the traditional ruler of Sagittarius, the rising sign. Placidus files it under the 11th house, read as friends and hopes, while Whole Sign moves it to the 12th, read as what happens out of public view.
