What Venus in the 7th house means
The 7th house starts at the descendant, the point that was setting on the western horizon when you were born. It covers marriage, business partners, contracts and the rivals you face openly. Venus stands for what you find beautiful and how you go about love. Put together, the tradition reads this as someone whose sense of pleasure runs through other people: you feel most like yourself with a partner across the table.
The natural sign of the 7th house is Libra, and Venus rules Libra, so modern astrologers call Venus the natural ruler of this house: here it works on home ground. Older books describe the result as charm and courtesy, plus a talent for making a deal feel friendly. Modern writers add the shadow side: you may keep the peace at any cost, swallow a no, or judge your own worth by how the relationship is going.
Venus in the 7th also touches work. The house covers every partner who signs something with you, so the same skill shows up with clients, agents and co-founders. Astrologers tie it to roles that bring two sides together: sales, mediation, agency work.
The 7th is one of the four angular houses, with the 1st, 4th and 10th, and planets on an angle are read as plainly visible in a life. So a Venus near your descendant is a Venus other people notice.
Is Venus in the 7th house good or bad?
By the old rules it is good. Traditional astrology counts Venus as the lesser benefic, a helpful planet. William Lilly in 1647 gave the 7th house Libra and the Moon as its cosignificators and added that Saturn or Mars badly placed there "shew ill in marriage." In his rules for marriage questions, the Moon applying to a strong Venus is one of the signs that the marriage will be concluded.
Whether it works out well depends on the condition of Venus. In Taurus, Libra or Pisces it is strong. In Aries or Scorpio, the signs opposite its own, and in Virgo, where tradition says it falls, the same placement is read as love that has to work harder: more demands, more criticism, or a partner who cools faster than you do. Hard aspects from Saturn or Mars count against it in the same way.
Modern astrologers aim the caution at you. Venus in the 7th can make you so keen to be liked that you agree too early and resent it later. The usual modern advice is to say what you want before the contract is signed.
Their Venus in your 7th: synastry
In synastry, the comparison of two charts, "their Venus in your 7th house" means the other person's Venus falls in your house of partners. It is called a house overlay. Astrologers read it as attraction with a commitment flavor: you see the other person as partner material, and they find it easy to be kind to you.
An overlay needs your birth time, because your houses depend on it, and only your time: their Venus sign is the same all day. The synastry chart calculator places each person's planets in the other's houses. Read the overlay together with the aspects between the two Venuses and Marses, which say more about chemistry than any single house.
Venus in the 7th of a composite chart, the midpoint chart of a couple, is read as a relationship that is about partnership itself: the two of you are seen as a pair, and keeping the peace matters to both.
Your Venus sign in the 7th
In Whole Sign houses the 7th is the sign opposite your rising sign, so the sign of your Venus here also tells you your ascendant: Venus in Libra in the 7th means Aries rising. In Placidus the 7th starts at the exact degree of the descendant and can spill into the next sign, so the pairing is usually, but not always, the same. Each line links to the full page on that Venus sign.
♈︎ Venus in Aries in the 7th (Libra rising, Whole Sign)
Venus is in detriment in Aries, and in the 7th that reads as quick attraction and quick fights. You like a partner who pushes back. The marriage needs room for two strong wills. Jennifer Aniston's Venus sits at 9°13′ in this sign, and Placidus files it one house earlier. Venus in Aries
♉︎ Venus in Taurus in the 7th (Scorpio rising, Whole Sign)
Venus rules Taurus, so it is at full strength. Loyalty, touch, a good dinner and a shared bank account matter more than romance on paper. Change in a partner can feel like a threat. Venus in Taurus
♊︎ Venus in Gemini in the 7th (Sagittarius rising, Whole Sign)
You fall for a mind first. Talk keeps the relationship alive, and silence is the warning sign. You may want more variety in a partner than the people around you expect. Bob Dylan's Venus, at 12°59′, is here, in the Whole Sign 7th. Venus in Gemini
♋︎ Venus in Cancer in the 7th (Capricorn rising, Whole Sign)
Partnership feels like family. You look after the other person and want a home together early. Moods move the relationship, so a steady partner helps. Adriana Lima's Venus, at 9°15′, is a Placidus 7th with the Whole Sign 8th. Venus in Cancer
♌︎ Venus in Leo in the 7th (Aquarius rising, Whole Sign)
You want to be proud of your partner, and to be adored back. Generosity is easy here, flattery too. Being taken for granted is the one thing that hurts. Venus in Leo
♍︎ Venus in Virgo in the 7th (Pisces rising, Whole Sign)
Venus falls in Virgo, and here love shows through small, practical care: the fixed shelf, the remembered appointment. The risk is a running list of what the partner does wrong. Venus in Virgo
♎︎ Venus in Libra in the 7th (Aries rising, Whole Sign)
Venus is in its own sign and in its own natural house, the classic form of the placement. Courtesy, fairness and a beautiful shared life go with it, along with the strongest pull to avoid open conflict. Eric Dane's, at 12°05′, gives the same Placidus 7th, and so does Adam Driver's, at 11°05′, though Whole Sign puts his in the 9th. Venus in Libra
♏︎ Venus in Scorpio in the 7th (Taurus rising, Whole Sign)
Venus is in detriment in Scorpio. Attraction is intense and private, and trust is earned slowly. Jealousy is the part astrologers warn about, along with a partner who brings power or money into the deal. Serena Williams has Venus at 16°20′ here, a 7th-house case whichever way the houses are cut. Venus in Scorpio
♐︎ Venus in Sagittarius in the 7th (Gemini rising, Whole Sign)
You want a partner who widens your world: travel, faith, another culture. Freedom inside the commitment is the condition. Long distance can work better than it should. Willow Smith has Venus at 15°34′ of Sagittarius, one of four charts where the two systems agree. Venus in Sagittarius
♑︎ Venus in Capricorn in the 7th (Cancer rising, Whole Sign)
You take partnership seriously and may choose someone older or more settled. Love grows over years and is shown by reliability. A late or carefully planned marriage fits this reading. The Weeknd's Venus, at 22°17′, is in this sign in the Whole Sign 7th. Venus in Capricorn
♒︎ Venus in Aquarius in the 7th (Leo rising, Whole Sign)
Friendship first, then love. You want an equal and some independence in the marriage. Unusual arrangements suit this pairing better than a script. Venus in Aquarius
♓︎ Venus in Pisces in the 7th (Virgo rising, Whole Sign)
Venus is exalted in Pisces, so tradition counts it among the best. Love is tender and forgiving, sometimes to a fault. The caution is to idealize the partner and miss who they are. Venus in Pisces
Venus transiting your 7th house
A transit is where Venus is moving now, against the houses of your birth chart. Transiting Venus through your 7th house is read as a friendly few weeks for relationships: dates go well, an existing partner is easier to talk to, contracts and negotiations run smoothly.
It does not last long. In our count of 1930 to 2025, Venus usually stayed in one sign for 25 days, and 8 stays in 10 took between 24 and 32 days. A retrograde can stretch a stay to 126 days, which tradition reads as a time to revisit an old relationship and hold off on a new one. Venus enters each sign about once a year on average, so this transit comes round roughly every year. These are stays in a sign, which is exactly a Whole Sign house; a Placidus 7th can be wider or narrower than 30°, so the transit through it can run a little longer or shorter.
To see where Venus is in your houses today, use the transit chart. For the year ahead, look for Venus retrograde dates: a retrograde in your 7th is the version astrologers talk about most.
What partner does Venus in the 7th describe?
Tradition describes the partner as attractive, well dressed, sociable or artistic, someone with Venus qualities. That describes the type you are drawn to and tend to meet, not a forecast. Searches for this placement often ask about the spouse's looks or the age at marriage, and nothing in a birth chart fixes the age you marry or whether you marry at all.
The sign of Venus colors the picture, and so does the sign on your 7th house cusp and its ruler. The 7th house page covers the cusp sign and ruler for each rising sign.
Venus in the 7th house in Vedic astrology
Many searches for this placement are Vedic, and the two traditions do not read it the same way. In Vedic astrology Venus is the karaka, the natural significator, of marriage and the spouse. Some Vedic astrologers cite a rule called karako bhava nashaya: a significator sitting in the house it signifies can weaken that house. Others treat Venus here as a strong placement for marriage.
Vedic charts also use the sidereal zodiac, which in our era runs about 24 degrees behind the tropical one, and Whole Sign houses counted from the sidereal rising sign. So Venus can be in your 7th house on a Vedic chart and not on a Western one, or the other way round. This page uses the tropical zodiac.
Celebrities with Venus in the 7th house
We checked the 143 celebrity charts on our site. Fifteen have Venus in the 7th, all with birth times rated AA or A by Astro-Databank (none of the nine charts with a B time has Venus in this house), and the two house systems split them. Kurt Cobain, Michael Jordan, Serena Williams, Tyra Banks and Willow Smith have it there in both systems, at 26° Pisces, 13° Capricorn, 16° Scorpio, 27° Capricorn and 15° Sagittarius in that order. Beyoncé, Bob Dylan, Emma Watson, Jennifer Aniston, Lana Del Rey, Prince and The Weeknd have it in the 7th in Whole Sign only, at 20° Libra, 12° Gemini, 9° Pisces, 9° Aries, 14° Taurus, 7° Taurus and 22° Capricorn in that order; Placidus puts their Venus in the 6th, below the descendant. Adam Driver, Adriana Lima and Eric Dane have it in the 7th in Placidus only, at 11° Libra, 9° Cancer and 12° Libra respectively; Whole Sign puts Lima's and Dane's in the 8th and Driver's in the 9th.
Seven of the fifteen charts have Venus in a strong sign, her own (Libra, Taurus) or her exaltation (Pisces). Jennifer Aniston's Aries and Serena Williams's Scorpio are her detriment. Capricorn, which holds three of them, is the odd one out: it is not her home or her exaltation, though it is no weak sign either, and Bob Dylan's Gemini, Willow Smith's Sagittarius and Adriana Lima's Cancer sit in the same neutral group. Fifteen charts prove nothing about the placement, but they show how much the house system matters. Read with Placidus alone, eight of the fifteen would be on this list; Whole Sign alone lists twelve.

Questions about Venus in the 7th house
What does Venus in the 7th house mean?
Venus, the planet of love and attraction, was in your house of partners when you were born. Astrologers read it as a person who thrives in one-to-one relationships, attracts partners easily and wants a fair, pleasant marriage. It is a traditional reading, not a prediction.
Is Venus in the 7th house good for marriage?
In traditional astrology, yes: Venus is a benefic and the 7th is the house of the spouse, so this is one of the placements the tradition likes best for marriage. A weak Venus (in Aries, Scorpio or Virgo) or hard aspects from Saturn or Mars are read as making it harder. No placement promises a marriage.
Does Venus in the 7th mean an early marriage?
No chart fixes the age of marriage. Tradition reads Venus here as a strong wish for partnership, which some astrologers link with marrying young; a Capricorn Venus, or Saturn near the descendant, is read the other way.
Why does one site say my Venus is in the 7th and another in the 6th?
They use different house systems. Placidus starts the 7th at the exact descendant degree; Whole Sign gives the whole sign opposite your rising sign. When Venus sits near the descendant, the two systems put it on different sides of the line, which is common for this placement (see our numbers below). Our tool shows both.
What if Venus is retrograde in my 7th house?
Astrologers read a natal retrograde Venus as love that is slower to show and more reflective: you may revisit past partners in your mind or take longer to commit. The 7th house themes stay the same.
Is Venus in the 7th house the same as Venus in Libra?
No. The sign says how your Venus loves; the house says where in life it works. They are linked because Libra is the natural sign of the 7th house, so astrologers compare the two, but you can have one without the other.
Is this placement rare?
No. In our count of New York births it came up in 8.3% of charts with Placidus, about one in twelve, close to the share most planets have in any house. What is rarer is both house systems agreeing: 4.0%.
What about Venus in the 7th of a solar return?
In a solar return, Venus in the 7th is read as a year when partnership is easy and in focus. A solar return is the chart for the moment the Sun returns to its birth position each year. Check yours with the solar return calculator.

How common is Venus in the 7th house?
In our count of New York births from 1930 to 2025, Venus fell in the 7th house in 8.3% of charts with Placidus and 8.3% with Whole Sign, close to one in twelve. Both systems agreed on it in only 4.0%. Of the charts with Venus in the Placidus 7th, 52% had it in another house in Whole Sign.
The placement also points to a time of day. Venus never moves far from the Sun, so with Venus in the 7th the Sun is usually nearby: in the 6th, 7th or 8th house in 80% of these charts. So Venus in the 7th usually means an afternoon or evening birth. In New York, 8 in 10 such moments fell between 2:20 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., with a typical time around 5:40 p.m.
